Good pieces of advice to give and to follow:

  • Look after those closest to you. Let them lean on you, just as you lean on them.
  • Have a backbone. If you want to pick an argument with somebody, do so to their face, or at least put your name to the comments. The 'anonymous' button, where abuse is concerned, is for cowards.
  • Respect people. Even if they haven't respected you - otherwise? You're just as bad as they are.
  • Sometimes, you have to be selfish. If doing something is going to cause you a lot of hurt, even if it's best for someone else, put yourself first. It's good to do things for others but not if it means sacrificing something very important to you.
  • Prioritise. Your future comes first, so education is a good place to start. Family and friends next. Then everyone else. But remember to make exceptions - there are extenuating circumstances for every rule.
  • You can't win every battle; sometimes, you will lose/upset people in order to protect those who mean most to you. It's unfortunate, but in some cases, unavoidable...
  • Keep an open mind; it's easy to condemn someone when you haven't put yourself in their position.
  • Don't let people upset you who don't mean anything to you, and if they do mean something to you, should they, if they are upsetting you?
  • Give people second chances, but if they ask for a third...
  • Remain modest, but don't undersell yourself
